FAQ (frequently asked questions)
How can I follow the game?
The easiest way is probably by reading the community's friends page. If you'd rather friend all the character journals and the community journals to your own LJ, that works too! Make sure you don't miss out on the goings-on at godrics_ooc, though; players often post RP logs there that may contain important plot points referenced in the RPG itself.
I thought James/Lily/[insert character's name here] was supposed to be dead! ...What year is this, anyway?
Godric's Hollow began one year ago at the start of the 1976-1977 school year (the Marauders' sixth year at Hogwarts).
How can I become a part of G_H?
Three easy steps:
Read the rules.
Pick an open character.
Apply.
You guys don't have a Kirley McCormack/Walden Macnair/[insert character's name here]. Can I apply to play this character?
If they're not on the list of open characters, we're very sorry, but your application will not be accepted. Part of the reason we elected to open the characters that we have is because we feel that these characters have something important to offer to the game. Once there are no open characters left, it is likely that there will not be any additions to the G_H cast unless we have a very good reason to do so. Furthermore, original characters are a BIG NO-NO. We like our canon just fine the way it is, thanks.
What counts as canon?
Everything that we know from the books up to and including Order of the Phoenix. However, we have taken liberties with some of the details, since not everything from this time period has made it into the books.
Okay, so you guys are canon snobs. According to the Lexicon, Nymphadora Tonks should have been born already! What's up with that?
Uh. Well. It's funny how things work out sometimes, isn't it? Moving on!
Who is that in [character]'s icons? Where did you get the pictures? Can I make you icons?
As far as making icons goes, you'll have to ask the players themselves (check their journal userinfo for contact information). If you can't find any way to get in touch with a player but absolutely must send them something, e-mail benjy@vitaminless.com and we'll see what we can do.

How do the dates/timestamps in G_H work?
Godric's Hollow started on June 25, 2003 (which converts to September 1, 1976 gametime), so... count from there (or take the easy way out and use our date conversion calculator!). As far as timestamps go, they may vary according to our players' timezones and are occasionally changed to reflect the time that the post should have been written at.
Why did you take the commenting feature off of godrics_ooc?
In the interest of protecting the identities of our players, logs are the only posts on godrics_ooc made public and must have the commenting feature turned off.
What do those little icons on the cast page and list of NPCs mean?
If you hover over them long enough with your cursor, an alt tag should appear that tells you what each means. But here they are anyway, for easy reference:
- future member of the (original) Order of the Phoenix
- future member or supporter of the Death Eaters
- member of the house Quidditch team
- captain of the house Quidditch team
- Head Boy / Head Girl
- house prefect
- ex-girlfriend of Gideon Prewett
- ex-girlfriend of Sirius Black

Toast.
How can I contact the players?
As previously stated, if you are interested in contacting a specific player/character, you can check their journal userinfo. We respect our players' right to privacy and will not disclose their personal contact information or identities. However, keep in mind that most of the players follow the goings-on at the fan community greenlightwhoa, even if they don't comment.
